I m a trainee biology teacher but have to teach physics and chemistry up to GCSE KS4 Many of the topics I need to teach I last came across many moons ago, so when I need to get to grips with a new topic I use this book as a starting point It doesn t cover everything, but it s great at describing the main concepts and the main misconceptions that students will have. There is a newer edition available, but I ve seen the new edition and I think this copy is a good, cheaper alternative for the basics.

As an NQT, this book has helped me to focus on helping students when introduced to KS3 and GCSE physics topics that are considered difficult to grasp.Useful diagrams, ideas, common misconceptions, practical work and suggested teaching sequences all help to make this book useful when planning a topic for teaching I only got this book recently, and regret not having it at the very beginning as it is such a useful guide. The book is written by a number of experts who successfully manage to make the book accessible and digestible to all science teachers, especially non specialists I think it is useful to specialists, too, as it is easy to forget the position of learning that the students are starting from, and it is a good reminder of their misconceptions It helps those of us who can forget that students do not have our own clarity on particular topics. For experienced teachers, they may find a fresh angle or a new practical to do to enliven the topics.Recommended for NQTs and early career science teachers.

This book, designed to help non specialists or for those new to teaching is excellent As a non specialist, I felt I needed something that would give me original ideas to produce snappy and fun physics lessons this book does just that With detailed information about major physics ideas, it provides suggestions for practicals and how to over come misconceptions Well worth the money something you will refer to regularly.
